It involves two key steps:

1. Testing – Using a calibrated Portable Appliance Tester (PAT), each item is thoroughly checked for:

Earth continuity – making sure the appliance is properly earthed and safe to use
Insulation resistance – ensuring wires and components are protected from leakage currents
Polarity – confirming power is flowing the correct way through the appliance

2. Tagging – Each tested item is then labelled with a durable tag showing: the date of the test, the next test due date, the results (pass or fail) and the technician's details.
